Growing up on the east coast meant every kid watched the weather during the winter to track any and all possible snow storms. If there was any chance of a snow day, kids would wear their pj's inside out and place a spoon under their pillow. Now all this superstitious start somewhere so I decided to do a little digging. This is what I was able to find:
Snow Ritual #1: Wearing Your PJs Inside OutAnd backwards. This snow ritual encourages everyone in the household to spend an evening in their favorite PJs and turn them inside out. This is meant to confuse the snow gods in some strange, very strange way and prompt them to deliver a blanket of snow for the participants.
Snow Ritual #2: Leaving a Spoon Under the PillowPutting a spoon under the pillow is a longstanding superstition that dates back to the days of the Pilgrims. It's a superstition that still lingers in the Midwest and Eastern states, and many people follow it religiously each winter season.
Over the last few days, all Baltimorians have been talking about is the impending snow storm which is supposed to bring anywhere in between 4-10 inches of snow (it probably does not help that I was in an elementary/middle school for most of yesterday). All of you northerners and midwesterners might think that this should be considered a dusting, but let me tell you, anything here over 3 inches pretty much shuts down the city.
So tonight I will sleep with my boxers and t-shirt inside out.
Every little bit helps, right?
