Today the family and I headed out to meet up with my parents new BFF couple for the Sleepy Hollow St. Patrick's Day parade (apparently the husbands now just tell everyone that they are brothers and it is VERY convincing). All of you might have heard of this quaint town before from the Legend of Sleepy Hallow. Despite growing up just down the road, I have never been here before and was excited to check it out.
I, of course was oblivious to Bedford getting 10 inches of snow just a few days earlier, came only armed with a pair of flip flops and a sweatshirt (sadly none of which were green). Thankfully my mother had an extra pair of boots so I was ready to roll. As you can see they are of the preppy variety and totally a standard item in any country household.
One of the nice things about living in the middle of no where is you get to take windy country roads from point a to point b. This afternoon we were able to drive by the Stone Barns which apparently also has some great hiking (something to check out when it is not so much snow on the ground).
The town was just as charming as you would imagine and there was wall to wall green EVERYTHING (not that I would expect anything less). At around two the parade kicked off and it was what you would imagine for a small town parade. We grew up going to a ton of these because my father would always march with the fire department and my sister and I would usually be with the Girl Scouts.
All the local fire companies came out, some more festive than others, and there were of course marching bands, complete with bagpipes and kilts. The highlight would have to be the headless horseman who kicked off the afternoon's festivities!
After the parade it was off to the biergarten. As a kid we were always kicked out and were ushered into the bowling alleys in the firehouse basement (not that I was complaining). It was weird to think that I had finally graduated and could hang with the grownups.
