Thankfully the bus to the metro to DCA went smoothly and I was in the airport with plenty of time to spare. What better way to kick things off with than with a Curious Traveler beer. Last spring a couple friends and I headed over to the DC Beer Festival where we discovered the Traveler Beer Company.
Soon enough were in the air and arrived uneventuflly at MIA. Unforunately my flight was delayed two hours for some unknown reason so after wandering around the terminal I decided to grab dinner. Now many people know I do not enjoy sitting at a bar by my lonesome, but exceptions are made at the airport and when the US Open warm up games are going on.
Sadly the bar closed WAY WAY WAY before my plane arrived so I decided to wander the airport. The whole thing had super cool tile inlays.
And fish everywhere
And a fairly large duty free shop where you could pretty much buy any liqueur known to man.
After walking around for about an hour I headed back, picked up my book and waited. Thankfully there was no second delay and as soon as I got to my seat, I passed out with the hopes of not awaking until we arrived in Peru. From there another layover, and the back on the plane. Sadly we hit another delay once boarding because the air traffic controllers were on strike. Two hours later we pushed away from the gate and were airborn for a short 4.5 hour flight into Buenos Aires.
Customs was a breeze and before you know it I am in a cab on my way to find Todd. With no phone and no free wifi anywhere on our travels it was a bit of a wing and a prayer, but thankfully I was dropped off at exactly where I needed to be.
To kick off the first night we headed off to one of BA's puerta cerrada, or closed door, restaurants. People all over the city open up the homes for people to come and eat. Not only were we one of the first to arrive, but were the last to leave (we are playing 6 months of catch up here).
